Color Belt System
Overview of Belt Levels
The LIMA TKD course is structured into three stages of instruction: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each stage is marked by specific color belts, totaling ten belts in the system. Progression through these belt levels reflects the student’s growth and proficiency in Taekwondo.
Beginner Level
The Beginner level includes three belts: White, Yellow, and Orange. Students generally spend a minimum of two to four months at each belt, although the actual duration depends on how quickly each individual develops their skills and understanding.
Intermediate Level
Intermediate belts are Green, Purple, Blue, and Red. Advancement in this stage typically requires four to six months per belt, with evaluations focusing on each student’s individual potential and progress.
Advanced Level
The Advanced level consists of Red with a stripe, Brown, and Brown with a stripe. Students usually spend at least six months on each belt, though toddlers (Ninjas) often need additional time to progress.
Belt Testing and Evaluation
There are six Belt Tests held annually. Advancement from one belt to the next requires participation in these tests, with evaluations based on each student’s individual abilities. The curriculum for each belt is distinct, and students must meet specific requirements to progress.
After Black Belt
Martial Arts can become a lifelong pursuit. Upon achieving the Black Belt, students may choose to set new goals, such as becoming an Assistant Instructor, Instructor, or pursuing high-level competition in Sparring or Forms, as Taekwondo is an Olympic sport. The Black Belt is divided into ten Degrees (Dans). The 4th Degree confers the title of Master, while reaching the 7th Degree earns the title of Grandmaster.
