Choosing to Compete

At LIMA TKD, participation in competition is entirely voluntary. You will never be required to compete unless you choose to do so. If you decide to take on this challenge, you will join our “Competition Classes,” where the training is more rigorous and demanding than in standard classes. Competing allows you to measure your progress as a martial artist by challenging opponents who match your skill level, age, and weight. It also serves as a powerful motivator to enhance your abilities. Facing another competitor in front of a large audience is exhilarating and gives you the chance to test the limits of your potential. Participating in competitions becomes a memorable experience, often encapsulating your martial arts journey in just a few minutes within the ring. Winning boosts your pride and confidence, while losing provides valuable lessons—helping you analyze your strengths and weaknesses for future improvement. Ultimately, competition is not simply about winning or losing; it is about personal growth, learning, and striving to become better. By embracing this mindset, you are already successful.

Our Record of Excellence

LIMA TKD competition teams are widely recognized in tournament circles for their well-rounded skills and achievements. Since the mid-1990s, our teams have earned several hundred gold medals in both local and state competitions. Our Junior, Adult, and Senior teams have proudly represented California multiple times at the US National Competitions, the US Team Trials, and on the international stage. Over the past two decades, we have produced more than a hundred National Champions in Sparring and Forms.

Season, Preparation, and Commitment

The competition season primarily takes place in the summer. Alongside our regular sparring classes, we provide specialized competition training to fully prepare you for the tournament experience. Joining one of our teams requires a significant commitment to intense and challenging training—but for those who are dedicated, the rewards and growth are well worth the effort.
